2025 USA Powerlifting Emerald Team Cup (WA-2025-06)

May 3, 2025

Meet Director: Sherri Nichols sherri@nicholshome.org

Registration Deadline: March 1, 2025

This is a USA Powerlifting Sanctioned event. All rules of a regular Full Powerlifting event will apply with respect to equipment, uniform and setting records. This event is designed to showcase the TEAM. In regular powerlifting events, the athlete’s focus is on themselves and how they place related to everyone else in their class. This event is about working together as a team against other teams.

Saturday – May 3, 2025

Weigh in: 8:00am-9:30am

Lifting begins at 10:00am

All lifters must be active USAPL members. 10% of the lifters will be drug tested.

Meet Location: Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE 6th St, Bellevue, WA 98004

This meet will be limited to the first 30 lifters (that means 10 teams!).

Spectator Admission TBA

This event offers only a RAW division.

How It Works:

Teams are made up of 3 lifters:

  • Open may consist of 3 of any age male person

  • Open may consist of 3 of any age female person

  • Junior/Teen may consist of 3 of either sex or all female or all male

  • Masters may consist of 3 of either sex or all female or all male

  • Each team may have 1 reserve lifter in case of injury

Each lifter gets 3 attempts of ONE of the movements (squat, bench, deadlift).

This means one person will squat all three attempts. A separate person will Bench all three attempts. And a third person will deadlift all three attempts. You will declare your lift on your registration form.

The reserve lifter may lift in the event of a team member becoming injured prior to stepping on the platform. This lifter may only lift one of the movements (squat, bench or deadlift).

The event will start with squats. All team members who will be squatting will lift. Depending on the number of entries, the bench pressers will warm up during the squats. And the deadlifters will warm up during the bench. We encourage you to cheer on your team members if possible. Each team member may compete in one lift only. Example: if you squat, you may not bench or deadlift.

Age categories: If a team consists of an open age group lifter (24-39), that team will be scored with the open teams (this includes the reserve lifter).

For tactical purposes, you will have the opportunity to change the 3rd attempt of each movement. This is normally done in a full powerlifting event in only the deadlift and in a bench press only event. But in this situation, each movement will be as if it’s a single lift event.

Scoring is done by the DOTS formula. Each lifter has a score assigned to their best successful lift (done by the computer). The 3 best scores for the team are added together to make the total score for the team. The highest DOTS score wins.

Lifting Attire: All competitors must wear a one piece lifting suit or a wrestling singlet, shoes and a T-Shirt. And you must be a current USAPL member. Renew online at www.usapowerlifting.com.

Drug Testing: You must be drug free for at least 36 months prior to the date of this meet to be eligible to compete. At least 10% of all lifters will be tested by urinalysis. Banned substances include but are not limited to anabolic steroids and growth hormones. The complete list of banned substances is available on the web site of the World Anti-Doping Agency (see www.WADA-ama.org).

Custom T-Shirts: All competitors will receive a free t-shirt. Please indicate your size on your entry form.

Each team member will receive a free t-shirt with registration.

Registration fee per lifter is $100.

The top 5 teams will be given a team award.

Each individual will register separately, indicating the names of their team mates on the registration. Each team MUST consist of a minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 (one reserve) members. The reserve member does not pay a registration fee.

Athletes may register any time after registration opens. If you don’t have a name for your team at the time of registration, each team will be responsible for providing a Team Name up to 7 days before the event.

The deadline to register is March 1, 2025.
